I can't quite believe that it's been 5 years already, but here I am.
I came over from the UK 5 years ago, not particularly having any plan to stay for a long time, just doing a job I quite like and getting on with the business of enjoying life. I've been on Quellensteuer, and just let the HR department handle things like taxes and stuff. I got a letter about renewing my permit when the old one expired, and not unsurprisingly, have been upgraded from B to C.
I would appreciate it if someone could give me an overview (or a link to a source of information) about what this change actually means. I am given to believe I now will have to do my own taxes, for example. What will this actually require of me? What new rights and privileges, or civic type responsibilities does this change now give me? Is there anything I ought to be aware of as a result of this? I did a search of the forum, but everyone seems to be asking far more specific questions, and it's hard to get a general overview.
