Manual Pakistani Passport

Calling out to all Pakistanis in the forum, are you aware of any requirements for Machine Readable Pakistani passports for Swiss visas ? The Pakistani Consulate in Chicago tells me that some European countries have such a requirement. I have a manual passport that I got from the Chicago consulate (You can only get a MRP from the NewYork consulate which unfortunately involves a 1500 mile trip with the family :(). Any experiences ? I called the Swiss embassy in Washington but they weren't sure and said they can only tell once they actually look at the passports !
