Out of time [Time limit to report a theft?]

Is there a time limit in which one can report a stolen item, e.g laptop or cell phone to the police here, for insurance reasons?

My phone was stolen, so I went to the Fundbüro, they said check within 2 weeks. As it was on a train stop, then I thought about contacting the SBB and filled an online report, and it said can take up to 10 days. So being optimistic, I waited.

Now the question of the insurance and the police report. Hence, I ask.
