Hi there, happy 2014 everyone!:)
Just a quick post to share my Groupon customer experience with you. I bought 2 vouchers for 1hr massage each, called a couple of weeks prior to expiration and was advised that there was no availability before expiration. But not to worry, I was told, I could book for later, which I did. I was asked to send voucher codes by sms, which I did. A week before the appointments I had to reschedule as both of us were out of town. I called and said that I would need to cancel the appointments and move them to another date. The lady said it would be ok and we did not immediately fix any date. I called a month later to schedule the massage and the lady would not recognize me nor accept any Groupon voucher codes. She said she "did not have time to go back and see which ones were used and which ones were not".
Groupon responded that they would refund the money only in the case I get a written confirmation from the vendor that they did not perform the service. The lady would not give such a statement, saying I paid to Groupon I need to resolve with Groupon. And Groupon tells its dear customer go figure this out on your own.
I lived in the US and I used Groupon occasionally there. Their Customer service was really good and although I didn't have such an issue in the US, I am sure they would have addressed it directly with the vendor not involving the customer.
I would have thought that Groupon signs some sort of a contract with their vendors whereby they oblige them to perform (in this case) services as per the vouchers sold. And if they take the codes and refuse to perform the service, Groupon shall sort it out with them directly without pointing fingers here.
Voila, this is the ugly Groupon story. While it won't stop most of us going for a good deal, I am certainly no longer going to buy vouchers unless the vendor is known to me.
Yes.. and don't send your voucher codes by SMS. This is the key learning here ;)
