I'm (semi-)seriously looking at becoming a consultant. If only my current pension deal wasn't so sweet...
Thanks for the threads that clearly set out the true costs.
Anyway, there are several barriers. Amongst which are: 1) I'm rubbish at administration; 2) I'm a frontalier and I don't want to be taxed in France. So here's an interesting alternative to setting myself up as a sole trader (autoentrepreneur, in France).
"Salary portage" (portage salariale) means that you negociate your consultancy work as usual, but the fee is sent to a third party who do all the admin work, including AVS , and then they pass on the payment as a salary. They usually take 5-10% of what you earn as their fee.
Without trying very hard, I've found two interesting-looking companies in Geneva:
JAM
http://www.jaminternational.com/en
Amedia Capital (in French only).
http://www.amedia-capital.ch/service...neurs-suisses/
So, what do we think? :msnnerd:
