Does anyone know how after a divorce, a couple that shares obhut and sorgerecht 50:50 can also share the tax advantages of having a child live with them for half of the time? From what I've understood, the person paying the most child support will benefit from the lower tax rate plus those payments are tax deductible. For the spouse receiving the child maintenance, this is taxable income and his/her income generally is taxed at the higher rate as if he/she has no child, which represents quite a lot of money. Only the bundesteuer takes account of shared custody, but this tax is not the main chunk of the tax we pay. Any ideas or tips gratefully received! Thanks
