So I work for this International company HQ in EU, R&D in Switzerland, noted on US stock exchange, Dutch subsidiary what not...
Anyway every once in a while we have this big meeting with multiple locations, highly attended from the US. I'm giving this presentation and one of the slides has "What's it all about" written on it and since it's somewhat related to Canada, I say "or maybe I should say what's it all abo'ot" I admit it's a bad joke but at least on our end it's received somewhat ok. On the other side of the line there's this "OMFG did he just say what I think he did"-silence.
We have similar situations when we have colleagues from the US visiting, you can literally see the shock when we're just having fun amongst each other or just teasing (without any harm, never with the intention to harm anyone)
Why is that?
anyone from across the pond that can make this "politically incorrect" Euro understand..?
some context:
In general I don't take myself too serious, I constantly make jokes about either me or my background and I use jokes a lot to break away from the day to day stress of high paced, challenging work. I don't see any harm in it and my colleagues here do the same and we're quite an international bunch.
