Hi,
I am a British citizen and am currently working on a contract in Zurich. My girlfriend is American and has stayed with me for 7 weeks as a tourist as part of the schengen treaty 90 days permissible in 180 days rule.
My girlfriend flew back to the US recently, but I have just found out my contract is to be extended for a further 6 months. We would now like her to return and as such have applied for a Visa Type D in the local embassy in California.
They have changed the reason for the visa to family reunification, and I now have to write a letter explaining how we got together, why we want to be together and so forth. This I do not have an issue with at all (although some sort of template or guidance would be appreciated if anyone has prior experience?) my concern is that I looked at this option before applying and the conditions on the swiss embassy website says it si specifically for family / spouse.
She is also having to undergo a FBI background check (??) which can take over 4 weeks? She has never been in trouble in her life they just suggested it be undertaken.
I provided my contract of employment to pre-empt questions on sponsorship, but I now also have to provide pay stubs and bank statements.
Is this the right process? Seems very in depth!
