Painful and achy feet!

Does anyone have experience with achy/painful feet? After sitting or sleeping I find myself hobbling like an OLD woman :o!!! The pain is mainly in my heel, so I went to our family doctor and he took x-rays. They revealed no visible heel spurs, so he gave me a prescription for customized insoles...Is this the long term solution?

I seldom wear heels, prefer comfort over style, and try to choose quality over quantity, in regards to shoes. However, I do have long days on my feet. But.....HOBBLING ???

Any suggestions?
