Hi,
New abouts here, I've got a friend who lives in Switzerland. Now, he lives in a village in the Alps, near the French border. I'm not too familiar with Switzerland so you'll have to forgive me! Basically, he wants a little vehicle that is capable in snow and can get him up and down the hairy little road it takes to get to his chalet and needs to carry a few people (about 6). This road is very steep, and very poorly cleared, it takes a proper 4x4 to get up it under snow and ice is really lethal.
Now, he wants me to build him a little car/utility vehicle that will get him up and down this roads and into the village at the bottom. Possibly into the next door village, won't ever be travelling more than 10-15km away from his house. Most of the time its just to get to the bottom of the hill (1km journey) and then back up again.
Anyway, I'm going to build him something on a classic VW Beetle chassis, not quite a beach buggy, but the beetle body will be removed and the rest of the car constructed onto an unmodified VW Beetle Chassis. In the UK this is fine, you have to get the V5 description changed, which will probably require an inspection, but not an IVA test as it retains the unmodified chassis. Then of course you need to get the car MOTd and insured of course!!
Now I can get this done in the UK, but when it is finished MOTd etc etc, how could I import it into Swtizerland, is it doable? What needs to be done, I see all these requirements for an MFK (is that what it's called?). That even the wheels need to be original...so of course my adaptation is never going to pass by the sounds of it. Just wondering what to do?
The alternative is import the Beetle before I start the project, and then after the build is finished register it in whatever way the Swiss require? But I'd assume this would be more difficult?
I hope somebody can help, I know this is a bit of an odd question, but maybe someone could point me in the correct direction? All the best,
Music Guy
