So we came for a brief, very brief, look and see trip this past weekend to Lausanne. Arrived in Geneva, picked up a rental car and drove straight into the Lausanne 20 k (half marathon?) race :msnblush: that was in progress and so couldn't reach our hotel for the next four hours. We decided to make the best of it by driving around to somewhere near the center of Lausanne, park, find a restaurant and cheer the runners along the route. I was surprised at how friendly people were and how accommodating and forgiving the drivers were considering my non-existent (but very earnest) French and the fact that we accidentally stopped on the wrong lane stop lights more than once. I was very impressed also by the patience of the policemen, one of whom actually had to stop and explain a different route to every single driver that drove up to him since the road beyond him was closed.
Anyway, just to say I am grateful for all the local friendliness during our visit and grateful to the "What you wish you had known before moving to Switzerland" posts here on the EF. :) I'm off to spend a few more hours on EF now :msnnerd:
