Hello all,
Just want to run this through with you guys if that's alright and make sure we haven't misjudged anything..
My girlfriend has bought a few bags and clothes at the usual places (Bicester Village, London..), I don't know of the value but I can't imagine it's more than a few hundred pounds. ...gifts for the family and all.
She is leaving the UK for good and visiting me for a few weeks before flying back to Malaysia for good.
She plans to:
- Go to Heathrow T5 (her BA flight departs here)
- Claim tax back
- Fly to Geneva (with BA)
- Based on the fact that I don't think either one of us has ever been stopped as we leave the baggage collection in Geneva and asked if we wanted to declare anything, I will make the assumption that there will be no one there to ask her if she is bringing anything into the country. (if anyone has a different experience, we would be interested in hearing it :) )
- She plans to leave for Malaysia from Switzerland
Are we missing anything? Or should the above be possible? Claiming tax back is not my speciality but is it possible given that Switzerland isn't EU? Does she need to show that she is resident elsewhere? She can't prove she's resident here in Switzerland (she's not!) but I don't know what documents she will need to show at Heathrow to claim tax back...
Thank you for any advice ;)
