Hi all, I am new to this forum, but I have lived in Switzerland for over 20 years and I still remember the hassle my parents went through when we moved (notably a bad experience with Groupe Mutuel) and thought given my experience I'd be more than happy to help people out with all questions they could have related to insurances or taxes in Switzerland, I know it can be very confusing so really don't hesitate to ask i'd love to help if I can.
I'm not sure its the right place to post this, so direct me if its not right :)
Already to help out a little, I wanted to post a short list of things that can be deducted from your taxes as a little helper (it never hurts to pay less!)
1. Travel from Home to Work (usually applies to public transportation subscriptions but sometimes to other means of transportation)
2. Lunches: Even if your company offers you cheaper lunches at a cafeteria you can still deduct it.
3. Professional expenses: A fraction of your salary
4. Interests on Capital Investment + Third Pillar 3B (in Geneva and Fribourg only)
5. Donations (Philanthropy)
6. Third Pillar 3A: Up to 6768 CHF for Employee/ 33840 CHF for Freelancer
7. Buyback of 2nd Pillar years: When salary increases you can "buyback" years of 2nd Pillar contributions as if you had that salary since the age of 25.
8. Medical expenses exceeding a certain threshold.
9. Interests of a loan/mortgage (doesn't apply to amortization or leases)
10. Both married partners are working: A special quota is applied
11. Nanny or nursery service get a deduction per kid and per year.
12. Pensions after a divorce can be deducted as well.
Hope this helps, if you have questions feel free to contact me,
Warm regards, Marcus
