Best town/kanton for Pillar 2 pension?

Given that for pillar 2 pension lump sum withdrawals are subject to tax, and this is dependent on which town/kanton you live in, which is the best one, i.e. lowest tax rate. Is there an overview, or a comparison table or similar ..??

Live in EU, remotely work for swiss company

Hi. I'm EU25 citizen, a software engineer and I would like to remotely work for a swiss company that is domiciled in Switzerland. I had worked in Switzerland before, under B permit.

a) can I remotely work for a swiss company without the need to obtain a work or residency permit?

b) can I remotely work without the need to open a company in either my country or Switzerand?Or, can I work under "classic" employment contract?

c) Would be in case of remote work old age pension contributions paid in swiss system?

d) Would be in case of remote work tax contributions paid in swiss system?

thank you

Non EU B Permit - Job Role or Company Change - YES, another one :)

Hey all -

I'm coming up on two years here in Zurich and my permit (non-eu B) is up for renewal again (renew every year). After two years I'm thinking about what my next steps are and what the future holds for me, just doing long term career planning, etc..

So, I was researching about changing jobs and even the ability to change roles and how that would affect my permit.

Based on my own crude research (mostly from this forum) I came up with this: Non-EU B permit is tied to your job/company and any changes you would have to start the process over - and prove that there is no one in the EU that could do the job, etc... (I wasn't sure about changing roles within the same company)

However - I recently got my renewal paperwork and I asked the immigration lawyers this same question and this was their response: "Your permit is not linked to your employer. Therefore you can change role and company"

While good news, it seems counter to everything I have been reading. So - I guess my ask to those that have been around a while, what gives? Was I wrong in everything I've been reading? What circumstances allow for job changes vs. those that don't. Just trying to get an understanding.

(I have asked for clarification from the lawyers as well).

And for those that may ask, my permit says this:

On the Front: aufenthaltsbewilligung(B)
On the Front: Mit Erwerbstätigkeit
on the back: selbst. Erwerbstätigkeit ist bewilligungspflichtig (which translates to self employment requires permit)

Thanks in advance for any input - and if the lawyers get back to me, I'll update!

Subletting & find a new apartment - need some tips

So this is the situation: me, the lady and the baby live in a cozy 1-bedroom apartment (Canton Geneva). As the baby is now growing (6 months) we desperately need a second bedroom. Our rent contract is pretty standard, I can leave only with 3 months' notice before the expiration of the contract (February '21) or if I find a new tenant to take my current rent before.

I have a few questions for the forum, as reading in many topics around here did not answer all my questions:
- Do I have to notify my regie if I start looking for potential new renters for my current apartment? Or can I put the advert on the various websites without notice?
- What should I ask to the potential new renters? Last three paychecks, the certificate of non porsuite (or whatever is called) and which permit they hold?
- If I find 3 suitable potential renters, my regie must take one or I risk to get stuck with my apartment if they refuse all three?
- Should I wait that the regie approves one of the new renters before making any offer for a new apartment for me? Or can I sign a new contract even if I only have found the 3 renters and sent their dossiers to the regie?
- As my cat did some damage to the walls, do the house needs to be restored before the new tenant arrives (as it would happen if I terminate the contract) or they just get in and keep the damage? The damage is very small but the regie will want it solved for sure, insurance will cover but... I guess the deep cleaning needs to be done regardless.

Our plan at the moment is to start looking as soon as the COVID-19 limitations get fully lifted (June). My fear is that there will be less competition for any new apartment we might seek but, on the other hand, less potential renters for our current apartment (I would also add that currently I pay 1700 CHF + 200 of charges + 220 of garage that comes with the house/lease. The apartment is 3.5 (Geneva standards so 1 bedroom, living room, big kitchen, bathroom, cave in the anti nuclear shelter).

So should we start listing our current apartment first, notify the regie first, start looking for a new place first? The latter I would not as usually you have very limited time to make a decision to get the apartment and I would like to have somewhat sorted the current apartment situation.

Many thanks!

Gaming chair

With working from home being a longer term reality, I was wondering whether I ought to get a more comfortable chair.

Then the idea hit me whether a gaming chair would be good? After all, if a chair was designed for people to sit in and play games comfortably for hours on end, maybe it would also be suitable for work?

Anyone have a gaming chair and can offer an opinion on whether this would be a good idea? Any recommendations or chairs or alternatives to gaming chairs?

What do you think about the COVID-19 antibody tests?

Hello,

My company is encouraging us to come back to the office on the 27th of April, or at the latest 11th of May. They are offering antibody tests to make us feel more at ease. I have been following these tests closely in the news and there is quite a bit of mixed messages on whether or not they work or if you can even build immunity to the virus.

In today's news, Roche has announced that they will be releasing an antibody test, which I am more likely to trust due to their worldwide leadership in diagnostics.

https://www.20min.ch/schweiz/news/st...-2021-12420033

Given the evidence, how do you feel about these tests? Would it make you more willing to go back to work or go out in public if you were found to have had the virus?

I am still not sure... I had a serious flu in the very last days of February. I suspect due to the symptoms and timing, that it very well may have been COVID-19. I am at high risk due to asthma and I would like to feel more at ease during this crisis.

Thanks for your feedback! :)

UK pension (SIPP) tax

I have a UK SIPP. Over the years I’ve transferred all UK employer pensions to it every time I’ve changed job. I’m late 40s, so it’s a while before I can access it. I’m a Swiss resident and plan on staying here after retirement. My questions are re UK taxes.

The gov.uk website says: “If you’re not a UK resident, you don’t usually pay UK tax on your pension.” Since there is a double taxation treaty with Switzerland I assume that I could reclaim UK taxes and pay here instead. Has anyone had any issues with this?

Also, as it’s a long way off, it’s not beyond the bounds of possibility that my SIPP pension pot could appreciate beyond the lifetime allowance. Do I pay 55% on a lump sum withdrawal in the UK and then reclaim?

Health Insurance costs

Hi, I have received a job offer from Roche and they told me they have an agreement with SWICA. We are a family of 4, me (42), my wife 35 and two kinds under 2.

I am completely lost with the Swiss system. I would like to know:

A. Does anyone know about the Roche/Swica agreement?
B. How much can I expect to pay monthly for health insurance? Any payments besides the monthly fees?
C. What would be a reasonable plan? What things would not be covered?
D. Any other company suggested as cheaper/better than SWICA?
E. Would my coverage work worldwide?

Quantic (former Smart.ly) online MBA / EMBA

$

They started out as Smart.ly and recently have been rebranded as Quantic, now also accredited in the US as a proper online MBA education.

Their regular MBA is supposed to be free, 100% online, based on famous MBA curriculums. The 12-month EMBA one is charged at 10k CHF, scholarship support is possible.

Did anyone try their (E)MBA? What was your experience in terms of material as well as (online) networking? Is there any "quantic community" in Switzerland, more closely in the metro Zürich area? If you are already through, did you get any recognition for this MBA title in a job hunt or job progression? I read all I could find online, but the Swiss area would be particularly interesting. I've looked at some profiles on LinkedIn who are showing their Quantic education, the profiles are not CEOs but are in respectable positions.

I understand one does not get the prestige and the networking compared to HSG, IMD or the others. It also costs a magnitudes less or even 100% less. Doing a regular EMBA also has a huge opportunity cost if one can't do it paid (partly) and supported (fully) by the employer.

Any input or experience would be welcome.

One of the strange things about living out of England for too long is the speed at which the "left behind" come up with new words...

Brexit, followed Grexit and let's not forget Megxit... and now we have the Covidiots... Coranally coming next.. (no, not really, I just made that one up )

Help!

I am the Zurich shopping queen. I am also newly unemployed. I *need* my fix of second-hand 'brocki' shopping.

Does anyone know when they will be allowed to re-open ?

And no, online second-hand shopping is just not the same. I need high volume, low budget items to fill my shopping cart and give me budget-joy.

The Swiss-German Border Closure: Any Developments?

Hi,

Is there any development on when Germany will allow "non-essential" travelers to enter from Switzerland? I think Swiss authorities are already ok with it as long as you are a resident/citizen. No? Then I should follow German government announcements, I think :-/

Many thanks

Loose tap handle

My bathroom sink tap handle is a tad loose and wobbly, I thought the screw on the top shown in the pic just needs to be tightened, but no affect nor can i take it out, screw just seems loose and rotates easily. Do I have a defective screw thread or is there another way the tap handle can be tightened?
