Qualifying to be a doctor in Switzerland as a non EU graduate

Hello!
I am a third-year medical student from Egypt.
I was wondering if it's possible for a non EU graduate to become a doctor in Switzerland!

I've been studying german for a year and a half (B1 so far) and my grades as a medical student are quite good.

I also speak fluent English and Arabic.

Can someone walk me through the process of becoming a physician in Switzerland?! Is there a medical equivalency exam?

Thanks a lot in advance! :)

Health Insurance exclusions - would these be excluded does anyone know?

Hi,

We are considering moving back to Switzerland (we are Swiss) and I am trying to figure out what we will have to face in terms of insurance costs/issues etc. if we do make the move.

We now have 4 kids and I know it is going to be much more expensive to insure us than it was when we left - I am just trying to navigate what kinds of things to be prepared for.

I've been trying to read up on this and find out things online via insurance websites etc... but its been a bit tricky and was wondering if anyone has any experiences to share or know-how about this...

My youngest has congenital strabismus (lazy eye) and she has been followed by an optometrist/opthalmologist since birth pretty much - and will most likely need surgery at some point to help correct it...we have been putting it off because we have had such conflicting levels of care/advice for her in NZ and AUS that we don't trust their recommendations. Now though if we return to Switzerland I am wondering whether it would even be an option - as wouldn't her condition be excluded in the health insurance policy since it is pre-existing?

Does anyone know if the insurance excludes EVERYTHING to do with the condition or only parts?

My son hasn't been diagnosed with anything yet, but we suspect he has ADHD or Aspergers or something and just wondering if he would be able to get assessed as part of insurance once we are in Switzerland? Or would that have to be out of pocket for us?

I'm assuming my husband's damaged knee (totally shattered, from a motorbike accident 20 years ago, but is functioning fine now) would be excluded? Does that mean even if he developed damage in the future to the knee it would be excluded automatically and he would have to pay everything out of pocket, or only in relation to anything to do with the original accident?

Thanks for any advice on this...its a pretty big minefield trying to navigate all the details we will have to sort out before we come back ;-)

Does RAV support a career change?

Hi all,

I am your typical, highly stressed office worker, plugging away in a big corporate machine and have been for decades, too long than I care to remember.

As with most big companies, they restructure often and people get laid off in the process, and as I get older, more tired, and less motivated to work in this hectic and energy sapping mode, I find myself asking whether I would have the minerals to force myself into the next machine should I end up redundant.

All of which brings me onto my question: does anybody know whether RAV supports a complete career shift/retraining for lost souls like me? Assuming they understand and accept that the stress levels are having an affect on my well being. Just curious if you have experience of this, or know of somebody who has.

Many thanks!

Dance Studios in Switzerland

Hi everyone,

Is anyone familiar with any advanced level dance studio/company in Switzerland that offers courses in Jazz funk/Jazz/Hip Hop/Ballet for adults? I’m a professional dancer and I’ve been in dance studios throughout my teenage years, and I’m lowkey desperate to find a dance company/studio to join now that I live in Switzerland. I’m willing to travel basically anywhere to go dance.

I’ve found some but they don’t seem to be necessarily so serious or to have the high level of daily/weekly programs that I’m interested in.

For an idea of what studios I’ve been affiliated with/have learned from and what I’m kind of looking for:

Dance factory in Mexico: https://youtu.be/aXMRaQaresQ
1Million in Seoul: https://youtu.be/nbhKw0HcKLQ

If anyone has any ideas, they’d be greatly appreciated. I’ve been googling like crazy and thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask here lol.

Cheers

Hi dear,

I'm looking for an apartment for our new born baby, but we don't have any idea where is the best place to live:

1.friendly to baby:with playground around and without steep hill(because of the stroller)

2.close to nature:my husband and me all like jogging,we would like to go jogging with the stroller.

3.Lower Tax area:we want to save some Tax for a bigger apartment:msngrin:

4.within 30 mins to zurich HB(including less than 10mins walking distance)

Do any one has good recommendation that could meet our requires?

Washing cars during COVID-19 pandemic

Hi there,

They recently renovated a part of the street on which I live and they did not tell a soul anything about it. Needless to say, a lot of cars which were not parked in garages (including mine) now look like they have just returned from a nice Safari in the sub-Saharan region. The cherry on top came this week when all the Pollen that was floating around sedimented, on the asphalt, on the people walking the streets, on the grass, and on the ... cars. Now they all look like a grotesque post-modernistic version van Gogh painting... a lot of colors, that`s true. But still, driving around with a car like that in Switzerland is like an invitation for a police check.

While this might sound like a redundant question, I did my google job but to no avail. Does anyone know of any car wash in the Zurich area that would be open, despite this COVID-19 lockdown? I do not have the possibility to wash it myself, maybe just with a bucket, but that would not bring much and would just turn all the dust on my car in a layer of concrete-pollen mix. :msnblush:

Thank you all in advance!

Working in Switzerland and living in Germany

Hi, I am creating this post because I have been trying to find information on an official Swiss website and couldn't find it.
I am contacting the authorities but meanwhile, I would like to know if anybody here had a similar experience.

Let's suppose that a person has a residence permit B, she is from England, and has a job contract in Switzerland. She wants to rent and live in Germany and commute to her work in Switzerland daily.

Some people told me: because of your residence permit, you HAVE to live in Switzerland. Some other people told me that this is irrelevant, you may want to travel from Japan every morning if you want.

So I am trying to get an official answer to this. Do you have any experience on this? any link to share?
Thanks!

Insured salary

Hi friends,

What if the insured salary is higher than the cap of 148K? In case of unemployment only 148K will be used for the calculation? If that's the case what is the point of insuring more than that?

Sorry if its a stupid question. :-)

Happy Ramadan (though it started on the 23rd), this particular celebration is always special to me. Even though I'm not Muslim, I've spent numerous memorable moments with some of my Muslim brethrens, especially around Ramadan and it's symbolic to me at least, for the true meaning of peace, humility and friendship.

Can you receive compensation for road works outside your home?

Hi all,

My entire street is currently being dug up and the sign outside states it will continue until July.

We didn't receive any notice in the mail etc., it just began one day about 5 weeks ago. I can handle the noise even though it isn't convenient to have a jackhammer outside your window while working from home. The major problem is the significant amount of dirt and debris that is constantly flying through the air. My windows are covered in dust. Of course I need to open my windows from time to time for fresh air, this leaves my home covered in dust which is terrible for my asthma/allergies.

Someone mentioned to me that I could receive a kind of compensation for these works. Do you know if that is true and who I should contact for this?

Thank-you and have a nice weekend.

Credit Card in a Swiss Bank - repayment

Hello, just wanted to clarify how a "credit card" in a Swiss bank is working.

The system here is very different to the UK.

It appears that the only way you can pay online is with the "credit card" and not the "debit card".

I see that the money that I spend on my "credit card" is getting deducted from my account anyway.

So, do I understand correctly that I don't need to do anything to pay off this "credit card", or I still need to call the bank once a month, to pay of this "credit card"?

Apologies, this is quite confusing.

Neighbour artificial tree advice

Hi all,

We have a new Neighbour that has moved in and have asked us to cut down our trees :(

We live in Geneva and with the tree gone we have very little privacy.

We would like to put trees taller than roughly 3.5m height however we don’t have the 2m distance to the limit.

Is there any law prohibiting putting artificial trees within the 2m border limit?

We would like to put some artificial 3.5m bamboos along a 10ml line about 1.5m from the limit to provide us with privacy, technically these are not real trees/grass

They will be in pots and can be moved!

Would we need to get a permit from the state to do this?

Please advice

Thank you

I can't quite tell the time, 10 pm? We looked up in the sky and there were what looked like 20 or so meteors crossing the sky, really, really fast, but all in a perfect line. Satellite disintegrating in the atmosphere? Did anyone see it? It was really impressive!

Hello,

Do you have good suggestions for a deposit box in CH or abroad? It should be as anonyme as possible. Definitely without bound bank account and without referencing in any directories, if they exist. Box location could be also in France, Austria, maybe Italia

Thanks

Summer job as a teenager from a non member EU/EFTA?

Hello, I am new to this forum and I hope you guys answer/have similar questions on this topic. I am 16 years of age and I have work experience in a grocery store. I also study the German language in school and I am looking for a summer job in Switzerland as a member of non-member EU/EFTA countries. Which is Serbia. My question was, are there any summer jobs in Switzerland that would hire a 16 year old Serbian and give me a work visa/permit? I am guessing some people have similar questions and I hope you guys can also benefit from this thread.
