Kim Jong Un reportedly as good as dead

If the rumors are true, he's in "vegetative state".

It wouldn't surprise me the least and it would be truly karmic that a dictator who reigned by fear and terror, died at the shaking hands of fearful physician, terrified to make a mistake.

How many times can you freeze your RAV benefits during your eligibility period?

Hi guys, do you know if there is a limit in terms of how many times you can freeze your RAV benefits during your eligibility period (2 years)? RAV told me that if more than 6 months pass between a de-registration & new registration with them, you need to submit the whole application/all the documents again, which of course I would like to avoid. In January 2020, I decided to travel for 6 months and therefore I have asked RAV to freeze my benefits until the end of July. Due to COVID-19, my travel plans were heavily affected and I could travel very very little. Therefore, I would return to Zurich in June (hopefully) and re-register with RAV in June. But I would like to travel more during the summer period (I am sure the situation with the coronavirus will get better by then) and would de-register from RAV again sometimes in July to finally re-register once and for all sometimes in September. Do you see this as an issue? Has anyone a similar experience? Thanks

Financial Requirements For Family Reunification/Dependent Visa (Non-EU)

Hi there!

So I've been reading multiple threads here in English Forum and I have a couple of questions and it would be great if anyone could please confirm them?

1. The Swiss Embassy has confirmed that my husband can apply for a dependent visa (Type D) with me in order for us to enter together in Switzerland. One of the requirements listed is "bank statements" and proof of financial status. Is the salary sufficient for this (paid PhD student; gross at 49,000 CHF) or do I need to prepare an additional 20,000 CHF (Neuchatel canton rules) for my husband?

1A. given that my gross salary is 49,000 CHF, is this not sufficient to cover the 20,000 CHF requirement per person?

2. In order to renew my husband's residence permit (B) yearly, do I need to provide 20,000 CHF? Is this necessary?

I am reading multiple threads here and I didn't realise the "financial requirements" for Non-EU and their Non-EU spouses were very excessive. Any clarification would be much appreciated!

Neighbour's marijuana smoke sipping into our apartment

We moved into a small town in the canton of Zurich. The town is amazing, close to work, lots of families with kids.

The problem we have is a neighbour who smokes enough marijuana to make pollute our terrace. Now we can't even enjoy our terrace or leave windows open because the marijuana smoke sips in, making the apartment unbearable.

I asked the neighbour to be considerate. His response, more or less, was f.u., you can't do sh*t, marijuana is legal. This took me back, since I was asking him to be considerate, since we can't leave our apartment during the covid lockdown. We now feel like prisoners.

I realized that instead or escalating the issue with the neighbour, I should instead make it by building managements' problem.

I have emailed the building management company over the past month and a half regarding the offensive smell sipping into our apartment because the neighbour is smoking.

What steps should I take to escalate the issue?

Back to Italy after May 4th

Hi,
Is now more than two months that I can't hug my kids because blocked here in Switzerland, does anyone knows what can we do to be able to reach home after May 4th?
I've read somewhere that maybe calling Italian embassy they can give you a pass with "family reconciliation" reason that would allow you to not get fined if stopped by Italian police.

Any experience during these months?

Cannot de-register / obtain annonce de départ

Hi all,

Due to great timing, I left Switzerland permanently during this COVID-19 situation and I have yet to de-register from my canton (Geneva) as the OCPM offices have been closed until further notice.

Under direction from the OCPM, they told me it would be fine to do this via mail from abroad at a later point when the offices re-open (return my permit, completed forms etc) but now I have an issue that I cannot cancel my health insurance policy without the 'annonce de départ' form, and I must pay for my policy until I can provide this.

My other services (home insurance, mobile phone etc) all accepted an attestation from my CH employer confirming I had ceased employment in CH and a form my new employer abroad stating I had started full employment with them - but the health insurer is being stubborn.

Does anyone have a tip on what I can do? OCPM now won't reply to my emails or return phone calls (I assume the usual office staff have been redeployed to do other cantonal services) - or is just a case of pay my monthly bill until the OCPM issue my attestation and that's it?

My health insurer (Assura) also have ignored my questions if they will refund the month(s) I have paid while in "limbo".

Thanks!

End of tenancy steps for rental guarantee payback & help from ASLOCA

Hello everyone,

My husband and I are moving from a rented place near Lausanne at the end of June. We gave the required 4 months' notice.

We have asked the landlord for steps to be taken before we move out to ensure everything is correct and we can get our deposit back. He has not responded.

Can anyone give some guidance here? I searched the threads but couldn't find any answers to this type of question. For example, we would like to know;

1) a) if we are responsible for filling in a hole made in the ceiling by his electrician when fitting a light for us (we paid for the work)
b) if every small scratch and mark will be expected to be returned to as new condition; (ie what counts as "fair wear and tear"?) The place was newly fitted when we moved in. I noticed a crack in the freezer drawer so I guess I will need to order a new one? (duh, "yes", I'm sure....)

2) if it would seem reasonable to ask for any prospective new tenants who want to look around our place to be wearing masks and gloves given the COVID-19 situation? No one has asked yet, but I'd like to be sure we are being reasonable for when they do :)

We are going to employ a cleaner to be sure the place is perfectly clean; I've asked for quotes from Maxiclean and MoveAgain (since BatMaid don't give a guarantee and ask clients to provide all cleaning materials). Any advice on this would be most welcome also.

Since writing to end our contract, I have joined ASLOCA to get some help from there, but when I eventually got through on the phone, the woman was not at all helpful saying she couldn't be talking with me for half an hour to explain things. Evidently my B2 level french isn't up to scratch, and no possibility of communicating in writing :msncrazy:

Thanks for reading.

Hi,

I have noticed in Zurich a few independent shops, e.g. Halk Pazari Oerlikon, that are regularly opened on Sundays.

I thought this was not allowed, or maybe the rules have changed because of covid...?

Working as a foreigner

Hi,

I am looking at moving to EU or Switzerland. I am a qualified electrician in South Africa. I know the electrical regulations aren't the same however some institutions in my home country advised that I can do a qualification evaluation together with maybe a test as the world uses a mixture IEC regulations. Can someone point me into the direction of where or who I can contact for this? Do you know of an electrician that has done this?

My wife speaks a little German and I can speak a little Spanish. My home language is Afrikaans - (which comes from a mixture of Dutch and German, so some of the words I can understand).

I would also like to know if there are companies that can help with an immigration process or a company that can give me solid advice and guide me through this.

Thanks to anyone that tries to help.

Best place to live outside of Zurich - while working in Zurich

Hello,

I am looking for a place very quiet (I am very sensitive to noise), and also with a garden (not a Must have but that would be really nice) and I was thinking the best option for me would be to find a place that is not too far fron Zurich HB (my work is close to the station) in term of time of transport, but nature close. Maybe even and entire house could be the best solution (I have found some looking on Immomapper). I have a budget around 1600 CHF max.

In which area do you think I should look at ?

Thanks :)

need info about 2.Säule after death, as a single payment

hello, I would like to have some informations, when my father passed away, his last employer where he worked for less than 10 years, had as 2.Säule the package from Swiss Life: "BVG-Sammelstiftung Swiss Life".

We got the payment for his 2. Säule as a single payment, but the amount was higher than expected, as I just assumed we would get what they deducted for BVG each month, multiplied by 2 (I assumed his employer was matching 100%). So with deduction of 350chf per month, for 7 years of work, I was expecting around 60k CHF, but instead the sum was almost 4 times that, close to 250k CHF.

As this happened over 2 years ago and I didnt know about the amount, but my mother was the beneficiary, and she just asked to double check the amount, and they confirmed twice that everything is correct (she also got this in writing). But she never cared about the reasons, I do, so I wanted to know if someone can explain me how this "BVG-Sammelstiftung Swiss Life" package works!
I don't know much about insurances or pensions to understand what I found on google, so maybe someone can help me out!

We have light coloured ( beige ) epoxy flooring in our balcony and garage. Proving to be impossible to clean thoroughly with regular detergents. Read somewhere that household ammonia works well but I think that it's not sold here.
Any advice would be highly appreciated.

The lockdown has given me a new respect for frozen vegetables...

Historically I have not generally a fan of frozen vegetables, as if you don't cook them just right they can be a bit mushy... however this lockdown has changed my mind.

I bought frozen vegetables at the beginning of the restrictions as buying fresh vegetables would have led to waste and more frequent trips to the shops. I found that steaming the veg gently for 15 mins in my steamer generally produces firm, tasty veg. Not as good as fresh still of course, but definitely decent.

The other thing it is totally brilliant for is making soups. I put some frozen peas, carrots and broccoli into a pan, add some herbs, garlic cloves and vegetable and/or chicken stock cubes and then boil it in around 500ml of water for 10 mins to soften and cook the vegetables. I then then blend it all smooth and then usually add well chopped leftover chicken from a previous batch that I cooked (but you can add any meat you want) and then simmer it gently for 20 mins. The result is a delicious and healthy chicken and vegetable soup that barely takes any effort to make and has enough for 3-4 portions.

After this is all over I think that frozen vegetables will be a permanent fixture in my kitchen. Quick, easy, tasty and with no worry about waste. :)

Yellow dust coming in through windows

Hi all -

I recently moved to the Schwyz canton area and with the weather getting better, I have started opening my windows more. I am noticing that all my furniture and the floor gets layered with yellow dust in just a couple of hours.

When I sweep or mop the floors, there's quite a bit of yellow dust that I see.

Is this pollen dust or something else?

I have put up mosquito nets on all my windows already and that as expected only keeps the big mosquitos out not dust :)

Mostly just looking to identify what causes this dust. But if someone has suggestions for reducing it, that's a bonus!

TIA

Migros/ Cumulus coupons

Hi -

When I go to migros I see other shoppers use discount coupons from Migros (paper, not digital). 10 CHF off, 5 CHF off etc.

I have been shopping at Migros for more than a year now and signed up for a Cumulus account right at the beginning.

Could someone shed light on how one becomes eligible for such coupons?

TIA

Hello!
I’m “Lash tehnician” (with B permit living in Vaud) and I want to register as Self-employed.
Maybe here is someone who is doing something similar ( nails, hairs etc.) and can help.

So how I understand I need to register in “Compensation office” and then wait for approval?! Is this is the only office where I need to submit documents?

What kind a invoices I need to write out for my services? Can I use “Receipt books’? if yes where I can buy them here in Switzerland? When I wrote in google I didn’t find any information, maybe because they call them different.

Do I need a separate bank account even for small incomes?

What kind a taxes I gonna need to pay? AVS/AI/APG what else? Impot a la Source? And how all this paying system and income declaration works? Do I need accountant who will do all this every month, trimester...or everything is easy and I can do it by myself ?

Recipes / How-to with Store-made Pizzateig

Hello community,

Does anyone have any advice, recipes, or tricks to using the store-made pizzateig (photo attached) ? I'm referring to the type of dough which you roll out of the parchment paper.

? Do I need to let it sit out, as I would with home-made dough?
? Any tricks to working with it; as it sometimes compresses back to it's original size.
? I don't have a full-sized oven; just a small toaster oven. Any recommendations for cooking in this type of appliance?

Naturally, I know that making my own dough is healthier, fresher, and super simple.

I just don't have a large working surface, nor a stand mixer; and the convenience of the store-bought dough is pretty nice. I want to maximize my potential with this supermarket item.

In brief; what tips, methods or recipes have worked well for you, when using the pre-made pizzateig from the supermarket?

The bank account on Malta where I had a few hundred stashed and what I considered to be static was in fact being charged 5 Euros a month, because it was static and no longer being used as a normal giro account.
So I withdrew the cash and closed the account.
Today I get a call from the bank telling me that it is 80 Euro cents overdrawn as there was a fee for the withdraw and how I plan to pay the 80 cents back....?
"I plan on visiting as soon as I can, I´ll pay your 80 cents then directly!"
-
"The airport is closed!"
"Then when it´s open again"
"I´ll ask my supervisor"

Let´s see how this financial greek tragedy pans out.
