Looking for family

$

I am trying to locate any and all family members of my father. I know he had sisters and I believe they are or were in Switzerland or Holland, as he visited them some time ago. My father passed away Sept 12 2012 and I have pictures of them together from his trip, but no other information. I am his only child, and would really like to get in touch with them. If anyone could help me, I would ever be grateful.
Thank you!

2-disk NAS (network storage) for sale

$

I have my old NAS for sale as the upgrade already arrived and I migrated all data off it.

It's a 4-yr old Conceptronic CH3SNAS, a 1-to-1 ripoff of the DLink DNS-323.
(you can also flash it to be a D-Link: http://wolf-u.li/3781/umflashen-des-...-link-dns-323/)
Has space for 2x SATA-II drives (SATA-III would work as well), can use your disks as:
- RAID 1 (mirroring)
- RAID 0 (striping)
- JBOD (just a bunch of disks, any drive will do)
- BYOD (bring your own drive, 2 independent disks)

-has gigabit, about 15MB/sec downstream, 8-10MB/s upstream (FTP is quicker, this is Windows File sharing)
-can serve as a DLNA server
- an iTunes server
- an FTP server.
- Windows Fileshare
- printer share on the network thru USB.
- has a mini linux on it for the ones liking to poke around :)

Unfortunately too slow on CPU for torrents, so not officially supported (although working, but for limited speeds). The NAS spins down it's drives when idle (also in RAID configurations). In idle it consumes about 5W power, so ideal to let it run and serve the whole household (desktops, laptop, iDevices) with media. With just filesharing this is a great little device. Also very silent, thanks to a customized fan-script that is running on it. :)

I am having a single disk in it, it's a 1.5TB WD Green SATA-II drive that was just used to store and playback movies every now and then, so ran about only 5-10% of it's 3 yrs or so lifetime.

Have the box for everything. Say 100CHF for the NAS, 150CHF together with the HDD?

school bullying

hi everyone
we just moved to Switzerland and our son started the school
he doesn't speak any German
by pure coincidence we found out that a boy 2-4 years older than him is beating him. This happened at least 4 times - a few times in the school during breaks and a few times in the neighbourhood
he is kicking our son in the stomach, back. When he tried to cry for a help this boy closed his mouth
I am really shocked
my wife will talk to the school principal tomorrow about it. Any advice? is it normal here?
thanks for your advices,
arbus

Is there a way of finding out if a prisoner is kept in a certain prison and how to contact them? I have been scouring the net for months trying to do this and appreciate any resources you can throw at me.

Hacked off with Orange

Myself and my husband have Orange pre-pay sims. We chose them due to the re-charge bonus offered when we got the sims 15 months ago. Basically if we topped up 30chf, then we got 30 days free internet/surfing.

So we got free internet + still had 30chf to spend on calls and texts, which we rarely got through.

A week or so ago we got texts, that said we were being changed to a new tariff that was "better for us", and no other info.

I just recharged, with 30chf, and basically now it seems we get an additional 10chf credit instead of the free internet. Looking at the website, this is the new offer, the old tariff is no where to be seen.

So now we have to pay 1chf per day for internet, so that is 30chf per month if used every day and then we have only 10chf credit left for texts and calls instead of the previous 30chf. How is this "better for us"??? :msnmad:

I have just sent them a nice email asking to be put back on the tariff we were on. If I've had no reply by tomorrow evening they will be getting a phone call, but I don't hold out much hope.

Online subscription of personal liability / household insurance

$

Hi,

Having just received back the signed contract for my temporary accomodation in Bern, I am now proceeding to subscribe a personal liability / household insurance, one of the requirements of the contract. I have tried using the premium calculators of Mobi, Smile Direct and AXA Winterthur, but they all seem to be just that: calculators. Though they all advertise "online subscription", they all seem to in fact require sending the paper contract for signing by snail mail.

I'm now worried that I would not be able to get the papers by post (I'm still in Senegal, where postal service reliability is funky, to say the least) and return them in due time (getting in the accomodation by 1st October). Does anyone know whether any of these companies can in fact enable 100% online subscription (or at least by fax)? I'm not too sure whether this is due to one of the choices I ticked (nothing especially fancy though, except for the fact that I will hold an FDFA legitimation card, not a B/C/G/L permit) or whether this is standard procedure. I'll try to call the various Bern-based agencies tomorrow, but any heads-up would be appreciated (same for names of alternatives companies; have not yet tried Allianz for example, though I'd rather not give them any more business based on past experience with them in France).

Thanks

Any special tickets from SBB for week-long visitors?

Hello! We have a friend who will be visiting us for 6 days soon. We plan on going into Zürich at least a few times (we need passes for 4 zones to get to Zürich from where we live), and maybe going on a daytrip somewhere further. He has never been to Switzerland so he of course does not have a halbtax or anything.

What do you all do when you have short-term visitors? Do you have them pay for full price tickets as they need them, or are there special deals for week-long visits to the country? We do not own a car, so we will only be using public transportation.

Forgive me if there are already threads dedicated to this topic that I could nto find. My searches did not yield helpful results!

I'm not around this weekend (huge pumpkin festival in Ludwigsburg nr Stuttgart - no, really) but there's loads happening in Basel this weekend.

1. Slow-Up (Sunday)
Many streets shut to traffic; a family day of cycling and cycling events. The routes (all circular) have stops with live music, beer, food etc.
http://www.basel-dreiland.ch/

2. Beat on the Street (Saturday)
Basel's attempt to get some of the Zurich streetparade glory. More D&B less techno. Along the river from 5pm/
https://www.facebook.com/events/624704180895486/

3. Semi-Circle theatre group bbq (Sunday)
Sunday seems to be the day everything happens. Hope it doesn't rain! Anyway, the theatre group is putting on a bbq for some reason. It's in Reihen - take your own food. Says it's free but I'm not sure if that's for members only.

4. Lichtfeld contemporary art weekend
I'll try and catch this the following week as it could be cool.
http://www.lichtfeld.ch/licht_feld_13/

I'm sure there's more.

Make the most of it! Summer's coming to a close and the events start to dry up.
